Brutal. That is the best word to describe the typical experience most people have when negotiating with their mortgage lender. Patience. Tenacity. Conviction. Try not to come across as desperate, but try to get as much help from anyone in a position to help as possible. Explain your situation, offer supporting documents, and reassure the bank that you want to live in your property for the long term.

If you’re in need of a short-term fix and want to stay in your property, a good number of banks can be forgiving. If you only missed a few payments, and want to keep your house, then sometimes the mortgage company will just add the missed mortgage loan payments back onto your loan. In the long run, your loan providers will more than 2x their outlay, so just talk to them and they will want to work it out with you. Banks are not in the habit of taking a loss, so they are remarkably reluctant to foreclose on your home… they’d end up taking an incredible loss. They really do not want to do it.

If a lender can say no to someone like you who needs their help, then obviously they’ve overlooked how their industry turns a profit and just need a little help remembering.
